Indications and Usage:
Ivermectin is traditionally employed to combat helminthic infections. It is primarily used in humans for the treatment of onchocerciasis, but it is also effective against other parasitic infestations, including strongyloidiasis, ascariasis, trichuriasis, filariasis, enterobiasis, and certain epidermal parasitic skin diseases such as scabies. It demonstrates efficacy against a range of parasites including flatworms, flukes (e.g., fasciolosis), tapeworms (e.g., cysticercosis, echinococcosis), and nematodes (e.g., enterobiasis, trichuriasis, ascariasis, and hookworm).
Approved Indications for Albendazole:
- Hydatid Disease: Albendazole is indicated for the treatment of cystic hydatid disease affecting the liver, lung, and peritoneum, caused by the larvae of the dog tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus).
- Neurocysticercosis: Albendazole is indicated for the treatment of parenchymal neurocysticercosis due to active lesions caused by the larvae of the pork tapeworm (Taenia solium).
