Ondansetron orally disintegrating tablets

Product Name: Ondansetron Mouth Dissolving Tablets

Common Name: tablet for vomiting & nausea

Strength: 4mg

Description:

Ondansetron orally disintegrating tablets are a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. This medication functions by inhibiting a chemical believed to induce nausea and vomiting in specific situations, such as chemotherapy. Ondansetron exhibits high specificity and selectivity for the serotonin 5-HT3 receptors, with minimal affinity for dopamine receptors. The 5-HT3 receptors are located both peripherally on vagal nerve terminals and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the area postrema. Serotonin is released from the enterochromaffin cells of the small intestine in response to chemotherapeutic agents, potentially stimulating vagal afferents through 5-HT3 receptors, which can initiate the vomiting reflex.

Indications and Usage:

This medication is utilized alone or in conjunction with other treatments to prevent nausea and vomiting induced by cancer drug therapy (chemotherapy) and radiation therapy. It is also indicated for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting following surgical procedures. Ondansetron operates by blocking serotonin, a natural substance in the body that triggers vomiting. It inhibits the actions of chemicals responsible for inducing nausea and vomiting. Ondansetron is not intended for the prevention of nausea or vomiting caused by factors unrelated to cancer treatment or surgery.
