Description:
Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist utilized for the maintenance treatment of asthma and for relieving symptoms associated with seasonal allergies. It selectively and orally inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene CysLT1 receptor.
Levocetirizine is a third-generation non-sedating antihistamine that prevents the release of various allergy mediators and reduces local blood flow, providing relief from typical hay fever symptoms. As the R-enantiomer of cetirizine, levocetirizine acts as a potent and selective antagonist of peripheral H1 receptors.
Recent studies have shown that the concomitant administration of montelukast and levocetirizine results in significantly better relief of symptoms compared to the modest improvement seen with each treatment alone.
Indications and Usage:
