Norgestrel and Ethinylestradiol Tablets are a potent synthetic progestational agent used either alone or in conjunction with an estrogen component as an oral contraceptive. This formulation includes a steroidal progestin, Norgestrel, which functions as a hormone to prevent pregnancy by altering the uterine and cervical mucus, thereby hindering the fertilization process and impeding the implantation of a fertilized egg within the uterine lining.
Indications and Usage:
This combination hormone medication is indicated for the prevention of pregnancy. It contains two hormones: a progestin and an estrogen. Its primary mechanism of action is to prevent ovulation during the menstrual cycle. Additionally, it increases the viscosity of vaginal secretions, which helps prevent sperm from reaching an egg, and modifies the endometrial lining to inhibit the implantation of a fertilized egg. If implantation does not occur, the fertilized egg is expelled from the body.
Norgestrel and Ethinylestradiol is a combination birth control pill that prevents ovulation, alters cervical mucus, and changes the uterine lining.
