Description: 

Gatifloxacin, marketed under the brand names Gatiflo, Tequin, and Zymar, is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Similar to other antibiotics in this class, it functions by inhibiting the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.

Indications and Usage:

Gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution, 0.5%, is indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of the following organisms:

Aerobic gram-positive bacteria:

• Staphylococcus aureus
• Staphylococcus epidermidis
• Streptococcus mitis
• Streptococcus oralis
• Streptococcus pneumoniae

Aerobic gram-negative bacteria:

• Haemophilus influenzae
